I can see my heartbeat through the fluttery material of my dress. I discreetly turn to see if anyone else notices that, by my heart rate, I resemble cartoon characters when they're in love or frightened. I don't even know why I'm doing it because... I'm alone.
Everyone is THERE.
I'm looking for a face in the crowd to give me a sign. I'm looking to see the whole face move towards the neck. I'm looking for just that one movement that sets the whole mechanism in motion.
I am.
Only a few steps separate me from my place on stage. The first is always the hardest, despite my considerable experience now. I lower my gaze to ensure I step surely.
I smile, my heart growing braver, and tell myself, not out loud, of course – „Tanja, if it doesn't go well, at least you have good shoes.“.
And so it would be.
I started taking things seriously as a twenty-four-year-old because the job required it.
„Don't stick out!
„Wear a skirt, not trousers
„You look lovely when your hair is blow-dried.
„no heels, you're tall“
„Don't walk like that, heels are elegant“
Well-intentioned advice followed one after another. Intentional, for sure.
And then I set my sights. Freed myself. Gained courage. Took myself back.
I've started to slowly spice up the uniform, giving it an identity.
Element by element, Lilu.
And since then, for a full 10 years now, Lilu shoes have been with me at every business moment that is very important to me. I even allowed myself to imagine that I was the godmother to one model, which I named – dobermanke. Now you go and find them, and let me know if I was a good godmother.
Lilu shoes are not just a fashion accessory; they were and will remain my story – about growing up, entering the harsh world of business, about the courage to remain true to myself in it, about how they are a part of my every success, told step by step.
I feel at home in them. I clicked my heels together three times. Because „There's no place like home.“
